For the past three years, the practical Master of Fine Arts programme "Body, Theory and Poetics of the Performative" has been dedicated to performance. All people who wish to engage with the performative in a practical and theoretical way are invited to apply! Artists with a bachelor’s degree can apply as well as curators, scenographers or scientists. In our M.F.A. programme, we welcome heterogeneous backgrounds and artistic approaches, as they enrich our inclusive understanding of performance. However, if your previous studies were completed in another field than Fine Arts, you must provide evidence of your artistic experience in your application.

The M.F.A. is led by Prof. Dr. Cristina Gómez Barrio and Prof. Wolfgang Mayer of the artist collective discoteca flaming star, as well as by the director and professor of Aesthetics and Art Education Prof. Dr. Felix Ensslin. The body is at the centre of the programme; the body is understood as a site of action, verbalization and resistance. The students' individual practice takes place within collective work processes. At the centre of artistic training in the M.F.A. are jointly developed artistic formats, performances, books, graphic representations, seminars, exhibitions and performances. Collective forms of critique and individual discussions complement the teaching programme. At the end of each semester, the artistic process is presented and discussed in a final oral examination. Furthermore, renowned experts teach courses on the topics of audio, video, movement, light and stage, articulation and writing, so that the students can further develop artistic tools and are able to present their own work at a professional level.

In the winter semester, students and staff have exclusive access to the well-equipped rehearsal stage of the Heusteigtheater, a historical theatre, for teaching, projects and individual work. Other exclusive spacious premises (movement room, audio and video lab) are available throughout the year.

Applications must be received by June 10, 2021, noon CET. A pre-selection will be made based on the application documents and the portfolio. The selected applicants will be invited to a personal interview with the selection committee, which will decide on admission to the M.F.A.
