Financial reports have been the primary basis for evaluating a company’s development in the past. However, facing the challenges of globalization and sustainability in the 21st century, more and more non-financial factors are influencing the mid-to-long term development of businesses. In 2004, the United Nations put forth the idea of “environment, social, and corporate governance (ESG),” which gradually became an important indicator for evaluating whether a company can operate sustainably. Not only do many businesses voluntarily publish an annual ESG sustainability report, but starting this year (2023) the Financial Supervisory Commission also requires listed and OTC-traded companies with a capital of more than 2 billion NTD to submit a sustainability report. Research shows that women leaders are especially adept at improving a company’s ESG performance. In partnership with the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan Low Carbon Initiative, NTU has invited women leaders from the information, medical, beauty, energy, and automotive industries to share their learning process and applications for promoting their company’s performance in ESG related aspects. This impressive panel of leaders will inspire local and international young talents to learn and explore their interests, so that they can contribute to ESG development when they enter the workforce.
